Character Classes in Song of Blades and Heroes

In the following text I present you some new character classes for the skirmish game „Song of Blades and Heroes“. They will allow you to play the game in a realistic way or in a more cinematic way.

NOTE: In my SBH-Games I use Quality in an inversed way. Quality 5 means, you need to roll 1-4 to activate. This way you can easily use intermediate values, e.g. Quality 3.4 would mean: roll 1-2, or if you roll a 3, you have to make another roll of 1-3 to succeed. If you want to convert to normal values and usage, use the formula: 8 – myOddQualityStat = standardSBHQuality.

Define with your buddy a number of choices for each army and whether it should be a simulationistic or an gamistic game-style. Chose from below:

1) Default Stats: Q4 C2

2) Simulationism Army Options:

– 3 Peasants (Q3 C2), Phalangites Option: Short range, friendly penetration, -1 if in direct contact (experimental: Q4 C2, green: must make morale test if witnessing friendly death within long)

– Warrior: +1C, Phalangites Option: Short range, friendly penetration, -1C if in direct contact

– Knight: may use Shield Wall with other Knights (+1C if in contact with another Knight, +2C if in line between two Knights), Phalangites Option: Short range, friendly penetration, -1C if in direct contact

– Cavalry: long move, may not enter wood, may charge at a model, this must make a morale test

– Shooter (long, -1C in Close Combat, Ranged weapons may not be fired while in base-to- base contact with an enemy unless otherwise stated in the weapon’s description)

– Leader: +1Q within long unless fallen or out of sight, can issue orders within long, optional: mounted (long move, may not enter wood, may charge at a model, this must make a morale test, cost 1 unit)

– Standard-Bearer: fleeing models within long may move to the standard-bearer, optional: mounted (long move, may not enter wood, may charge at a model, this must make a morale test, cost 1 unit)

3) Gamism Army Options:

Tank:

– Dreadnought: +2 if losing, 1 free hack per round if enemy in contact does attack another model

Damage Dealer:

– Shooter (long, -1 in Close Combat)

– Duellist: +1 if duelling with one enemy, also: may chose recoil directions of enemy and self freely unless fighting another Duellist

– Rogue: Stealth (Ambush: +1 if they start turn hidden, therefore in first round they are attacked), impr. Backstabbing (+2 vs enemies in combat with another foe), shooter (short)

– Battle-Mage: +1C if losing, AOE attack around him (C=number of actions, short range radius attack)

Healer:

– Healer: C1, may revive in the round after death/ restore 1 Quality/ help a model to stand up after fallen/transfix each for 2 actions or transfix cost within short

Controller:

– Magic-User: C1, with Transfix

– Sapper: C1, with Grenades/Flamer, explosions have Q4 to remain, block LOS and movement, range like with transfix, 2 misses means enemy may change target area by one short, 3 misses means sapper explodes

2a) Optional Rules: Epic Heroes, Q5 C4, each side may chose a number as agreed upon.

– Assassin: (Duellist or Rogue) improved Stealth (Q-fight necessary to reveal and attack in CC), backstabber (+1 vs enemies in combat with another foe), free disengage, Transfix-3- Attack in 1st round after hiding, may use poison instead of aimed or power attacks: Q4 poison (Q-fight necessary for poison to attack enemy) C3, continues each round until poison loses in Q-fight.

– Death-Knight: (Dreadnought, Warrior, Leader, Rogue) may revive dead as ghouls (Q3 C3) within # actions and for free if he kills target with his sword, Ghouls may react in the round after

– Arcane Archer: (Shooter, Magic-User (ranged C3)) Transfix-1-Shot/ Transfix-2 if aimed, may chose target, half range malus

– Warlord: (Dreadnought, Warrior, leader) no malus from additional enemies, enemies -1 Q within short Warlock: (Magic-User) C3, may summon Demons for 2 Actions (Q3 C3) within short

2b) Optional Rule: Races.

– Halfling: may occupy a field with a 2nd friendly Halfling, may occupy a field with a middle-sized model or a 3rd halfling with each model suffering a malus of -1 to combat, small, slow, forester, stealth if in forest and only if not occupying field with other models

– Night-Elf: may activate Stealth for 1 action, may not do other actions while stealthed

– Elf: last Q-roll of 2+/5- Orc: wins Close Combat in ties

– Shapeshifter/ Wereganger – has a chance to shift, if fallen, no action in the turn after shifting. +2 to Attacks but must attack nearest.

– Vampire: gains instant action after an kill with Power Attack

– Dwarf: may be sapper
